Organization

Organization is the heart of Pipe17. It can be thought of as a tenant in the multi-tenant SaaS world. User create organizations, configure it, and manage it. User logs into a Pipe17 organization.

Organization is essentially a tenancy in the Pipe17 SaaS platform. Each organization have a unique id referred as Org ID or Org Key. Data is isolated at the organization level. Orgs do not share data. The organization associated to billing is also referred as Account.

One configures integrations on an organization, as well as other configuration that support processing on various transactions, such as order routing rules. Transactions (e.g. Orders, Fulfillment, Products, Inventory, etc.), sometimes referred to as Entities, are scoped to an Organization.

There are two types of Organizations:

  1. Primary Organization - A primary organization is the one that has its own account object, i.e. its own subscription and billing. This is the default type of organization created though sign up flow. The is the most common type of organization.

  2. Secondary Organization - In some case, for large organizations or for brand aggregators, there is a need to create multiple organizations that are isolate from each other, while the billing is associated to just one (aka primary organization). This is an organization that can contain sub-organizations.

Please contact support@pipe17.com if you are interested in creating and managing many organizations

There are 2 variants of a primary organization:

  1. Holding Organization - A primary organization can be marked as a holding org. A holding organization cannot have its own integrations. If it already does, one cannot change it to a holding organization. No transactions/entities can flow into that organization. It is designed to hold multiple organizations. Typical for large enterprises, or partners who want to onboard many brands would create a holding type primary org. It allows a clean separation between an organization that is just meant for billing, and an organization for processing transactions. One cannot create a holding organization on their own. Please contact support@pipe17.com if you are interested in creating and managing a holding organization.

  2. Non-Holding Organization - The standard organization is a non-holding one. It can have integrations, and therefore transactions flow through. All new organizations created are by default non-holding.

How to create a single organization?

Pipe17 accounts are defaulted to be single organization. If you do not yet have a Pipe17 account, book a demo with a Pipe17 team member to get started

How to create a Holding organization?

By default, you cannot create a multi-organization setup on your own. You will need to contact support@pipe17.com and ask to have your Pipe17 account converted to support multiple organizations. Once the Pipe17 team has converted your account you will have the ability to create new, or link existing, organizations to your account as secondary organizations.

How to create a new Secondary organization?

Once your account has been converted to support a multi-organization setup, when you visit the Organizations page in the Pipe17 app (left side-bar) you will now see an “Add Organization“ button is available.

Once you have clicked `Add Organization`, you will need to add some details about the organization you are looking to create. The `Add Organization` window that appears should look similar to this, and will need to be completed before proceeding:

Important: the Company Email should point to the secondary organization owners email

Once created, the new company email will be registered as the new organizations admin. This account is now able to proceed with using the newly created organization by logging in separately and starting onboarding.
