Setting Up Your Organization

In Pipe17, an Organization is the foundational unit for managing your operations. Organizations define the boundaries for data, billing, and system configurations, such as integrations and transaction routing. Understanding how to structure and manage organizations is essential for onboarding, scaling, and supporting multi-brand or multi-channel operations.

This guide explains how to set up your Pipe17 organization, including the types of organizations, how to create them, and how to convert between primary and secondary structures.

Understanding Pipe17 Organizations

  • An Organization in Pipe17 represents a tenancy in the multi-tenant SaaS app.

  • Each organization is assigned a unique Organization ID (Org ID), sometimes called Org Key.

  • Organizations are data-isolated: transactions and configurations are scoped at the organization level.

  • Organizations are linked to a billing account, referred to as an Account in Pipe17.

Transactions (e.g., Orders, Fulfillments, Inventory) and configurations (e.g., Integrations, Routing Rules) are bound to the organization in which they are created.

Types of Organizations

Primary Organization

  • Default organization created during sign-up.

  • Includes its own billing account (subscription).

  • Supports integrations and transactions.

  • Two variants:

    • Non-Holding Primary Organization: Supports integrations and data processing.

    • Holding Organization: Designed for account-level management only. Cannot host integrations or process transactions.

You cannot create or convert an organization to a holding organization independently. Contact support@pipe17.com to request setup.

Secondary Organization

  • Created under a Primary Organization.

  • Does not manage its own billing account.

  • Operates independently but is billed under the associated Primary Organization.

  • Ideal for:

    • Brand aggregators

    • Multi-region operations

    • Agencies managing multiple clients

Creating a Single (Primary) Organization

If you're signing up for Pipe17, a Primary Non-Holding Organization is created by default.

To get started:

Enabling Multi-Organization Setup (Optional)

To support multiple organizations under a single billing account:

  • Email support@pipe17.com and request to convert your Pipe17 account to a multi-organization setup.

  • Once approved, you will gain access to the Organizations page in the left navigation panel and see an Add Organization button.

There is usually an agreed limit, and raising it requires discussion with account management.

Creating a Secondary Organization

Once your account supports multi-org:

  1. Go to Organizations in the Pipe17 app.

  2. Select Add Organization.

  3. Fill out the required information in the Add Organization dialog.

    • The Company Email must belong to the new secondary org's administrator.

  4. Submit to create the organization.

The specified email address will become the admin for the new organization and can log in separately to complete onboarding.

Linking an Existing Trial Organization as a Secondary

Only standalone trial organizations are eligible for linking as secondary organizations.

Pre-requisites

  • You must be an administrator in both:

    • The Primary (target) organization

    • The Trial (source) organization to be linked

  • The source organization must be a standalone, trial, and not yet expired.

Steps to Link

  1. Log into the Primary organization.

  2. Navigate to Organizations in the left sidebar.

    • If this option is not visible, contact support to enable multi-org capabilities.

  3. Select Add Organization → Link Organization.

  4. Choose from the list of eligible trial organizations.

  5. Click Next, confirm selections, and click Proceed.

  6. A success message will confirm the organization is now linked.

You can now see the newly linked organization in the organization list.
