Pipe17: Overview

Pipe17 connects your sales and fulfillment channels so you can automate your order operations with speed, accuracy, and flexibility. The app is highly configurable, allowing you to customize settings to fit your unique workflows. However, there are a few essential steps that every merchant must complete to begin using the app effectively.

This guide provides a high-level overview of:

  • Connecting your primary sales and fulfillment channels

  • Configuring order routing and location settings

  • Testing your setup before going live

Once your system is properly configured, Pipe17 routes orders to the correct fulfillment location, generates shipping requests, and keeps your sales channels updated with real-time fulfillment data.

Key Concepts

Understanding a few foundational terms will help you set up and operate the app with confidence.

Selling Channel

A selling channel is any system where Pipe17 pulls orders from. This is typically a commerce app or an order management system.

Examples:

  • Shopify

  • BigCommerce

  • Walmart Marketplace

  • NetSuite (if your ERP system is the source of orders)

For a complete list of supported connectors, visit the Pipe17 Connectors page.

Fulfillment Channel

A fulfillment channel is a system where Pipe17 sends shipping requests. This may include warehouses, 3PLs, or other logistics partners.

Examples:

  • Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF)

  • Ware2Go

  • Stord

Location

A location represents a distinct inventory pool within a fulfillment channel. Locations are typically mapped to physical warehouses (e.g., East Coast, West Coast) or operational divisions (e.g., “Unbranded Box Inventory”).

Locations are required to:

  • Route orders to the correct destination

  • Track available inventory accurately

  • Map fulfillment data to selling channels and ERPs

Routing

Routing determines which location should fulfill a given order. Pipe17 applies your routing rules to assign orders to the most appropriate location based on factors such as inventory availability, destination, or priority.

Shipping Request

A shipping request is Pipe17’s instruction to a fulfillment channel to ship specific items from a designated location.

Key points:

  • A single order can generate multiple shipping requests.

  • Shipping requests reflect how items are physically fulfilled—such as from different warehouses or at different times.

Some fulfillment providers refer to this as an "order", but in Pipe17, the term shipping request provides greater clarity.

Fulfillment

A fulfillment is a record that indicates shipment completion. It typically includes:

  • Carrier information

  • Tracking number

  • Shipped items

Pipe17 uses this data to:

  • Update the shipping request status

  • Sync shipment details back to your selling channel

  • Notify your customer that their order has shipped
