The Shopify Payments connector captures authorized payments on your Shopify orders when the app marks them as ready to capture. It works alongside your main Shopify connector, which imports the orders and their payment authorizations. This connector only captures payments, and it records a capture as complete only after Shopify confirms it.
With this connector, you can:
- Capture payments that are pending capture in the app on the matching Shopify orders every 5 minutes.
- Capture payments only for orders from the Shopify integration you pair with this connector.
- Avoid duplicate charges, because the connector checks Shopify for existing captures before it captures again.
- See an exception on any payment that Shopify declines or doesn’t settle.
Setup
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A Shopify store that’s already connected to the app through the Shopify connector.
- The integration ID of that Shopify integration in the app.
- Access to the Shopify admin for the store, with permission to install and authorize apps.
- Payment capture turned on for your organization in the app. To turn it on, submit a support request.
To connect Shopify Payments:
- Navigate to Integrations in the app.
- Click Add Integration, and then select Shopify Payments.
- Optional: Enter any extra Shopify access scopes you need under Request additional access scopes. Add them before you connect, or reconnect later to apply them.
- Click Connect. Shopify opens in your browser.
- Sign in to Shopify, select your store if prompted, and then approve the requested access.
- Return to the app. When the connection completes, Shopify shop URL (readonly) shows your store’s URL.
- Enter the integration ID of your Shopify connector in the Selling Shopify integration ID to capture payments for setting, and then save your changes.
Complete the Shopify authorization within 15 minutes of clicking Connect. Otherwise, the connection fails and you need to connect again.
Settings
- Selling Shopify integration ID to capture payments for: The integration ID of the Shopify connector whose orders this connector captures payments for. The connector captures payments only for orders from that integration. Until you set it, the connector doesn’t capture any payments.
Flows
| Flow | Direction | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Payment captures | Pipe17 → Shopify | Runs every 5 minutes. The connector picks up payments that are pending capture in the app, finds the matching authorization on the Shopify order, and captures the payment amount against it. If Shopify already has captures that cover the amount, the connector marks the payment as captured without capturing again. |
| Capture confirmation | Shopify → Pipe17 | Shopify processes captures asynchronously, so the connector checks the capture on each run until Shopify settles it. A successful capture moves the payment to Captured. A declined capture fails the payment and adds an exception. If Shopify hasn’t settled the capture after 12 checks (about 1 hour), the connector adds an exception once. |
| Orders, authorizations, and refunds | Not supported | This connector doesn’t import orders, payment authorizations, or refunds. Your main Shopify connector handles them. |
Troubleshooting
-
No payments are captured
Selling Shopify integration ID to capture payments for is empty or doesn’t match the Shopify integration that the orders came from. Enter the correct integration ID. The connector then picks up the payments that are pending capture on its next run. -
The connection fails with “Authorization timed out” or “Required Shopify connection not specified”
The Shopify authorization wasn’t completed, or it wasn’t completed within 15 minutes. Click Connect again and finish the authorization in Shopify. -
A payment has an exception that says “Shopify capture declined”
Shopify or the payment gateway refused the capture, and the payment is marked as failed. Review the order’s transactions in the Shopify admin to find out why, for example an expired authorization. -
A payment has an exception that says “Parent authorization not found”
The Shopify order has no successful authorization that matches the payment, so there’s nothing to capture. Check the order’s transactions in the Shopify admin. -
A payment has an exception that says “Capture still unresolved”
Shopify accepted the capture but hasn’t settled it after about 1 hour. Check the transaction in the Shopify admin. The connector keeps the payment pending capture and doesn’t capture it a second time.
