This article helps you validate routing decisions and fulfillment updates while controlling risk. You will restrict activity to a single test order, verify the shipping request and location selection, and confirm fulfillment flows back to both the app and your sales channel.
Prerequisites
A single test order selected.
Routing rules configured.
Optional: a mock connector if you want a fully safe, non-production target.
Steps
1. Prevent Unintended Routing
If your selling connector does not support tag/ID filters, add a temporary Order Routing rule filter that only allows your test order ID to route and blocks all others.
Keep Push shipping requests off for real 3PLs until you’re ready to test.
2. Confirm the Order Routed as Expected
In the app, go to Orders and open your test order.
After ingestion, the Shipping Request section appears when routing has run.
Verify the selected location matches your business rules.
If not, select Cancel above the shipping request, adjust your rule(s), then select Rerun routing.
3. Send to Fulfillment
In Integrations → your fulfillment channel → Settings, turn on Push shipping requests.
If the order already has a Shipping Request (SR):
The existing SR will be sent to the fulfillment channel automatically once Push shipping requests is enabled.
The order status will change to Sent to Fulfillment.
If the order does not have an SR yet:
Open the order in Orders and select Rerun routing to generate the SR.
Because Push shipping requests is on, the SR will be sent immediately and the order will move to Sent to Fulfillment.
Log in to your fulfillment system to confirm the order is present. If you do not plan to ship it, cancel it there.
4. Test Fulfillment Updates Back to the App and Sales Channel
If using a real 3PL, ask them to fulfill the order (or “fake fulfill” if they support that).
If using Pipe17 Mock 3PL, it will generate fulfillment for you.
In Integrations → your fulfillment channel → Settings, turn on Pull fulfillments.
In Integrations → your selling channel → Settings, turn on Push fulfillments.
In Orders, open your test order and confirm:
Status is Fulfilled.
Tracking details appear in the Shipping Request section.
In your sales channel, verify the order is marked fulfilled with matching tracking.
5. Clean Up
Cancel or close the test order in your fulfillment system if needed.
Turn off Push shipping requests if you aren’t ready for live traffic.
Remove temporary routing filters and rules.
Troubleshooting
No Shipping Request after ingestion
Wait a few minutes; routing runs shortly after ingestion.
Check routing rule priority and conditions.
Shipping Request sent before you were ready
Cancel the request on the order in the app.
Turn off Push shipping requests in the fulfillment connector Settings.
Use a routing filter that allows only your test order while testing.
Fulfillment not pushed to the sales channel
Confirm both Pull fulfillments (from fulfillment) and Push fulfillments (to sales channel) are on.
Verify the fulfillment contains tracking; some channels require it for status updates.
